Web
Publishing Guidelines for GCC web publishers
Approved by Campus
Executive on June 18, 2002
Revised and approved by WOC on May 6, 2002
Approved by Academic Senate in 2001
[bracketed information is explanatory and
not a part of the policy]
The GCC Web Page will have consistent design and color (look and
feel) for the home page, menu pages, and title pages. The Department of Communications, Marketing & Foundation
will monitor the look and feel of:
the home page, menu pages (pages containing a list of
departments, programs, services, and/or personnel) and title pages
(pages where a department, program or service is introduced---however,
the content of title pages is discretionary).
Below the level of menu or title pages, the design will be at the
discretion of the owner of the page, within the guidelines established
by the Using Information Technology
Resources at Glendale Community College.
For example, discretionary pages include the Academic Senate, the
Guild, CSEA, and faculty/staff pages.
The District will work cooperatively with faculty and staff to assure
that, at a minimum, all pages meet the legal requirements for
accessibility by students with disabilities and will also endeavor to
follow best practices for web page accessibility.
[For example, see Priority 1 requirements of the WWW
Accessibility Initiative Guidelines at
http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/full-checklist.html]
When pages are found to be inaccessible for students with
disabilities, an alternative format will be provided to ensure that they
are not denied access to information.
The Web Oversight Committee has been established to perform the
following mission:
The Web Oversight Committee (WOC) reviews the current and future
state of GCC’s web presence and makes recommendations for plans,
policies and procedures to the Campus Executive Committee for use and
implementation of the College’s web site with the goal of projecting
an image of GCC as a leader in higher education. [It is recommended that
this committee consist of representatives of students, Senate, Guild,
CSEA, and Administration, with care taken to include members who have
technical expertise, marketing experience, or heavy use of the Web.]
