Transfer Center Bulletin: June 2019

Tips of the Month

Students who applied for Fall 2019:

Congratulations!  Please make sure to read the admissions conditions given to you from your respective transfer intuition.  Remember, many schools have transcript deadlines in June or July.  Double check to see when transcripts and general education certification is due.

Students who have not yet applied for transfer:

Getting ready to transfer in the near future?  Great!  There are many steps you can take within the next few months to help with the transfer process. You may want to consider taking these steps to help ensure a smooth transition:

1) Good grades-Attempt to earn the highest grades possible for spring 2019. Consider utilizing the tutoring services here at GCC to make sure you are grasping the material and are getting assistance if needed.   Also, check with your instructor to assess your progress in the course.

2) Summer school- Consider taking summer school classes if you need to take remedial classes or are behind units.  Summer school is a great way to get ahead with your general education and major courses.

3) Fall courses- Stop by and see a counselor to discuss appropriate courses for your transfer goal.

4) Volunteer and internships- Although your GPA is very important, many universities do a holistic review when evaluating applications.  Participating in volunteer work and internships can not only provide you with an enriching experience in a field you are interested in, but can also make you a more competitive applicant for transfer.  You may want to consider spending time this summer in such activities.  Please visit our Career Center for links to internships and volunteer opportunities.

Want to see a counselor but can’t come in person?

GCC is excited to announce that we now offer online counseling services!  Online Counseling is a web-based service which allows students to connect with an academic counselor online and complete many of the services available during an in-person drop-in or appointment session. For more information please visit online counseling.
