COVID-19 Admission Exceptions

Many four-year universities have relaxed their admission policies. Campuses will exercise as much flexibility as possible when it comes to meeting admissions requirements and selection criteria, but flexibility will vary by campus, school/college, and/or major due to impaction. Contact the campus you intend to transfer to and check individual campus websites for information pertaining to exceptions and/or your counselor for clarification.

For UC fall admission exceptions due to COVID-19, please see their Undergraduate Admissions COVID-19 web page. For CSU fall admission exceptions due to COVID-19, please see their Admission Guidance for Incoming Transfers web page.

For the latest updates on transfer pertaining to fall admission due to COVID-19, please continue to check our COVID-19 Transfer Updates web page to stay up-to-date as needed. This section will be updated frequently as information becomes available.

Remember to:

  • Continuously check your email and campus portals regularly.
  • Directly contact the campus or university representative for questions, updates, schedule changes, and admission decisions.
  • Check with the campus as to what method of inquiries and document receipt is preferred and about how to update the campus with schedule changes. It may be best to send inquiries and documents to campuses via email or campus portal.
  • Check campus websites for the most up-to-date information. Be on the lookout for any changes to deadlines and requirements.

Admission Decisions
Many campuses have already sent admission decisions on a rolling basis. If admitted, campuses will request a deadline to accept your offer of admission. Please ensure that you meet the deadlines as requested. If you missed the deadline to accept your offer of admission and/or have any COVID related exceptions, some campuses may allow for an extension or for you to submit an appeal or for you to defer your enrollment. Students should contact the campus admissions office for further information and instructions.

Transcript Deadlines
The deadline for official transcripts can vary between campuses. Please make sure to read the admissions conditions given to you from your respective transfer university. Many schools have transcript deadlines in June or July. Double check to see when transcripts and general education certification are due. Please ensure that you meet the deadlines as requested.

Transfer Housing
Transfer housing may no longer be guaranteed due to COVID-19 provisions. Students should contact the campus for further information and instructions on housing.

Financial Aid
Some four-year universities are allowing students to request a re-evaluation of their financial aid offer based on changes in their families' financial circumstances. Students should visit campus websites to see how best to contact the financial aid office.

Virtual Campus Opportunities
Most campuses are offering a wide array of virtual opportunities for admitted transfer students. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Virtual Orientations
  • Virtual Open Houses
  • Live chats
  • Webinars (live and recorded)
  • Phone, email and/or text opportunities
  • Online presentations
  • Social media events and programs

Students should contact individual campuses for the most current information on any upcoming virtual and online programs and events for admitted students.

Pass or Credit Grades
Pass or credit exceptions can vary between four-year universities. Check with the school you intend to transfer to and/or consult with your counselor for clarification. Pass/No Pass option might be best used for either general education classes or electives. We generally do not recommend you that you take a course that is required for your major or graduate school as Pass/No Pass.

If possible:

  • Continue as you have planned with your coursework
  • Avoid dropping any classes
  • Prioritize minimum admission and campus major course requirements
  • Keep campus directly updated of any changes
  • Be careful of changing any classes to Pass/No Pass
  • Complete courses that are required for your major or graduate school for letter grades
