Biography
I am a full-time Professor of Spanish at Glendale Community College, working here since 2001. I received my Ph.D. from UCLA in Hispanic Languages and Literatures. My major field of interest is 20th Century Spanish American literature, with a specialization in poetry. I enjoy reading and writing short stories and poetry in both English and Spanish. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy traveling, gardening, designing jewelry, watching movies, and most of all, spending time with my husband, two children, and Australian Shepherd.
Awards: At UCLA, I won Teaching Assistant of the Year, UCLA Department of Spanish and Portuguese, 1997-1998. I have received special recognition for Course Outcomes/Faculty Researcher awarded by the ASCCC/RP SLO Assessment Collaborative on October 7, 2009 for Spanish 115.
My poetry is featured in Out of Anonymity, the Journal of the UCLA Writing Project, Volume 4, 2018.
GCC Campus Involvement:
Past chair of the Foreign Language Department; Program Review Committee; served in C & I, including serving as interim co-chair of C & I; Academic Calendar; Baja; Scholars; SLOs.
Teaching Philosophy:
I enjoy teaching face to face and all modalities of Distance Education. I use primarily the "flipped" approach for teaching, so students have more time during class to participate in activities, play games, and apply their knowledge for all kinds of communicative activities.
