Michael Reed is a father, husband, teacher, intellectual, humanist, surfer, hiker, environmentalist, and very amateur musician. After attending public schools in Providence, Rhode Island, he received his bachelor's degree in American History from Brown University in 1992 on both merit and need-based scholarships. In 1993, after quitting an executive job in the concrete canyons of New York City, he moved to California where he discovered geography, surfing along our coasts, backpacking through our mountains, a passion for environmentalism, and the academic world of geography. He returned to school at Cabrillo Community College in Santa Cruz in 1995 to pursue geography and mapping. Success there led to a master’s degree in geography from San Diego State University in 1999. Since the fall of 2000, he has been enthusiastically teaching environmental, physical, and cultural geography at Glendale Community College where he proudly holds the title of Associate Professor of Geography. He continues to explore California and the West with his wife and two girls and has now found time to visit more than 25 countries!
