It was appropriate that Viktoriya Shumakova wore a cardinal and gold shirt to her most recent visit to Glendale College. There she was back on the tennis courts where she had so much success for the GCC Women’s Tennis Team, leading the Lady Vaqs to the 2016 WSC Title and being part of a WSC Championship Doubles Team for the first time in school history.
But she is at USC now, racking up the accomplishments much like she did at GCC, where her honors include being name the 2016 Woman of Distinction. Truth be told, Shumakova has made a relatively easy transition from school to school based on the fact that she has made the USC Dean’s List in the spring and fall of 2017 and is a member of both the Psychology and Cognitive Science Honors Societies as well as participating in many other volunteer activities.
She credits being prepared for the rigors of USC by taking several scholars courses at GCC which have helped her stay on top of her workload even as transfer student. Her future plans include studying abroad in the Netherlands this fall as well doing an internship this summer at Insight Collective dealing with Pediatric Neuropsychology.
Getting a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology with the ultimate goal of working with children are also boxes she would like to check off.
And if she has any time left before she graduates, there are always more mountains to scale as a member of the USC Climbing Club Team.
