Welcome to Child Development! This class is called Child Growth and Development.
We will be covering human development from conception through adolescence, and possibly emerging adulthood if there's time.
My philosophy as an instructor in an online course is to engage you the student as much as possible.
I hope to encourage you to further your understanding of the topics we will tackle by offering discussions, readings and viewings that will hopefully make you want to learn more.
You will get out of the class exactly what you put into it. The more you emphasize your interest in the different concepts we're studying, the more I am able to tweak topics and activities based on your interests and those of the class in general.
In order to be successful in this class, you must be actively engaged each week:
responding to discussion posts and logging into your small group sessions with me, as well as keeping up with the readings and assignments.
All assignments and discussion responses will be opened for that week on Monday. During that week you may work at your pace, with all assignments, discussions and reposes being due by Sunday before midnight.
This class will be strictly an online class. There will be an in-person orientation the second week of class. You will be required to log into a weekly Skype or message chat with a group of your classmates and myself. You will be given two options to chose from – either Sunday or Monday evenings from 8-9.
The best way for an online class to work is for the students to regularly post and respond and for the professor to get to know the students as well as possible. I very much look forward to getting to know all of you this semester and hopefully in more classes in the future!
You must read the welcome letter before the class begins (it will be emailed to your GCC email) and complete the check-in assignment before the stated due date.
Below are very important logistics for our class. Please read the carefully:
