COMMON COURSE NUMBERING

As a result of AB 1111, California Community Colleges will be adopting a statewide Common Course Numbering (CCN) system. The purpose of the CCN system is to ensure that comparable courses across all California Community Colleges have the same course number so that students can easily identify courses that meet equivalent transfer requirements. This system will eventually assign common numbers, titles, and descriptions across all California Community Colleges, ensuring that equivalent courses have the same identifier, regardless of the college offering them.

What does this mean?

In Summer 2025, if you're interested in enrolling in MATH 136 - Statistics, you will look up MATH 136 in the Class Schedule as usual. However, if you're looking for that course in Fall 2025, you will need to look for STAT C1000 instead. See below for information on how to search for these new course prefixes and numbers.

What will appear on MyGCC and my transcript?

Students will see the old course for any classes taken during or before Summer 2025. In or after Fall 2025, students will see the new Common Course Numbering system. All common course numbering courses will start with a "C" in the course number.

Using the Class Search

You will find STAT C1000, STAT C1000E, and STAT C1000H by selecting the STATISTICS subject. For all other Math courses, select the MATHEMATICS subject.

This is how it will appear when you search for classes:screenshot from class search pointing to Statistics as the subject to search

You will find all COMM courses (previously Speech Communication) by selecting the COMMUNICATION STUDIES subject.
