The Garfield Campus is an approved California Training Benefits (CTB) provider. Unemployment Insurance recipients may obtain training/classes (with approval from the State of California, Employment Development Department) and still receive their unemployment insurance through Employment Development Department (EDD) funds. The Garfield Campus offers English as a Second Language Citizenship classes for those who want to learn more about the history and government of the United States and prepare for the oral interview citizenship test. The Citizenship Center is located in Room 105 in the Garfield Campus. Information regarding citizenship eligibility, application procedures and deadlines, legal referrals, INS forms needed for naturalization, photographs for INS application or passport, typing and preparation of the INS 400 form, and assistance in preparing for the exam are all services obtained in the Citizenship Center. The Workforce Investment & Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federal program that replaces the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) program. To qualify for this training program, you must meet federal standards regarding your unemployment status. To be enrolled in a training program, applicants must be assessed at a local One-Stop Center. The One-Stop in Glendale is the Verdugo Jobs Center, 1255 S. Central Avenue, Glendale, 91206; Phone: (818) 240-1000 , ext. 5035/5055. If eligible, students will be given a voucher to receive training services at the Garfield Campus.
The types of training certificates offered include Accounting Clerk I and II, General Office Clerk II and III, Dental Front Office Clerk, and Medical Front Office Clerk. Certificate programs are provided in structured classroom environments offering one-to-one instruction from credentialed instructors as well as individual lab hours. Training time ranges from 24 to 41 weeks, depending upon the skills training needed in their field of study. Those needing HS diploma or GED may enroll in these programs concurrently. This program costs $5,000 and includes books, supplies, and individualized services. Call the Garfield Campus for more information.
