A Hispanic Serving Institution/ Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (HSI/STEM) federally-funded program

Glendale Community College is pleased to invite you to participate in a new and exciting Federally funded grant: HSI-STEM (Hispanic Serving Institution/Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) project supported by the U.S. Department of Education.

The primary objectives of the grant are:

(1) to increase the number of Hispanic and low-income students who successfully transfer from Glendale Community College and College of the Canyons to California State University, Northridge to pursue majors in Engineering and/or Computer Science;

(2) to increase the number of Hispanic and low-income students who graduate from CSU Northridge with degrees from the College of Engineering and Computer Science undergraduate programs.

Those who plan to major in STEM-related fields at GCC are eligible and must be an individual who has faced or currently faces social, cultural, educational or economic barriers to careers in STEM, and be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Selected HSI-STEM students will have the opportunity to work closely with GCC & CSUN faculty mentors, participate in FREE tutoring sessions, and receive periodic ongoing academic and career counseling connecting you to your future STEM career. Participants will be expected to demonstrate academic progress by enrolling in a minimum of 12 units during each semester of attendance at GCC leading to CSUN transfer in STEM. All courses must be passed with a grade of C or better.

To maintain good standing in this program, your academic performance will be monitored at the end of each semester (in January for the fall semester, and in June for the spring semester).
