 EOPS Counseling Meeting Requirement 

All EOPS students are required to meet with their EOPS counselor three times during each semester (fall/spring). Students are also required to meet with EOPS counselor one time during each intersession (winter/summer), if registered. This counseling requirement must be met by all EOPS students regardless of the number of units they carry. Counselors may require additional visits, if needed.

Students on Probation

EOPS students who are on Probation must complete a Probation Contract with their EOPS counselor and follow a set of conditions therein in order to remain in a good standing with the program. EOPS counselor may require additional visits, if deemed necessary.

Fall 2019 EOPS Counseling Meeting Dates and Purpose for each Meeting

  • September 3 - October 4= 1st meeting

    New Students: Initial meeting session, which combines interview and interpretation of the guided self-placement results. With counseling guidance, students identify their informed goal and major to help prepare a comprehensive student educational plan (SEP). Students will also learn about the EOPS mutual responsibility contract requirements that specify programs and services the student shall receive and the expectations of the EOPS program regarding student accomplishments. Students on probation will have additional specialized counseling and a plan of action delineated in the Probation Contract that intends to improve student’s chances of success.

  • Continuing Students: Assessment of the student’s academic and EOPS program standing, which includes a review of the academic record from the previous term. Review of the student’s Educational Plan to ensure it accurately reflects the most recent adjustments in the student’s goal and major.   

  • October 7 - November 8= 2nd meeting                                                                   All Students: In-term meeting session is to insure the student is succeeding adequately, programs and services are being provided effectively, and to plan changes as needed to enhance student success. Review of the early alert academic notifications for that term, as well as Academic Work-in-Progress reports completed by instructors for students on probation. In collaboration with students, counselors prepare tailor-made recommendations and develop a course of actions for students to ensure their success. 

  • November 12 - December 18 = 3rd meeting                                                           All Students: Term-end or program exit meeting session is to assess the success of students in reaching the objective of that term and to monitor the success of the programs and services provided in meeting the student’s educational goal, i.e. transfer, degree and/or certificate, and to assist students to prepare for the next term of classes, or to make future plans if students are leaving the EOPS Program or the college. 

  • NOTE:
    1. Three counseling visits must be completed by the end of the semester.
    2. Students 
    who do not meet with an EOPS counselor at least once during the        primary semester will be exited from the program.

  • ONE MEETING PER WEEK POLICY                                                                              Students may visit their EOPS counselor as many times a week as needed, however, only one meeting per week will be counted towards the counseling meeting requirement.

NO SHOW POLICY                                                                                                       Once you have scheduled an appointment with a counselor, you are expected to keep this appointment and show up on time. If extenuating circumstances prevent you from keeping your appointment, please call or stop by the office to cancel your appointment to make it available to other students. If your record indicates two consecutive NO SHOWS, you will not be able to see a counselor until you meet with EOPS director. If the student cancels his/her appointment in advance, NO SHOW will not be recorded in the system. Monitoring your Counseling Visits

Please monitor your EOPS counseling meeting dates posted on your student portal. If you find that your last counseling visit date does not match your record, you will be expected to inform our office within one week from the time of your counseling visit in question. No corrections or adjustments will be made if it is not addressed within that week.

 How can my EOPS Counseling Meeting Requirement be met:

  • Meet with your EOPS counselor on APPOINTMENT or WALK-IN/DROP-IN basis
  • Attend one of the EOPS GROUP COUNSELING sessions designed for new students who have not completed College Orientation-St.Dv. 100 course (sign up at the front desk).
