Action Items Related to COVID-19

Approximately 5,700 GCC students are receiving notice that they are eligible to receive direct emergency financial aid grants. The one-time grants will be paid from $5 million to be distributed to the college from the Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The money is intended to help eligible students cover expenses related to the disruption of college operations due to the coronavirus, including food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare.

Fall Semester Decision 
Remote and online learning and students services will continue at GCC through the fall 2020 semester.

Class of 2020 Graduation
In six weeks, we will congratulate the graduating Class of 2020, but unfortunately there will be no traditional in person ceremony due to the pandemic. All graduates are invited to participate in the 2021 commencement exercises in June 2021.

Summer 2020
All classes will be taught via remote instructions.

Spring 2020 Parking Permits will be considered valid through the spring semester, 2021. If you purchased a permit, simply keep it and use it when the campus reopens.

Spring Semester Status: All classes has moved to remote instructions for the remainder of spring semester which ends on June 10, 2020.

Verdugo and Garfield Campuses are closed, however limited services are available via appointment.

Staff and faculty have transitioned to work remotely; only personnel in positions deemed essential are working on campus.

Student workers are restricted from working on campus, but will be paid for their assigned work schedule through the end of the semester. Managers will work with student workers to identify tasks and duties the student workers may perform remotely.

Academic Counseling is available online for students who would like to speak with a counselor. ONLINE COUNSELING. Students may also make appointments to meet with counselors by telephone by calling the main college number at (818) 240-1000 and then individual Student Services offices at the following extensions:

Chromebooks and Hotspot Devices
The GCC Library has received another order of Chromebooks and hotspot devices to loan to our students who lack a computer and/or internet connection. Please contact the library to arrange to reserve and pick up your equipment. Online Request Form: Fill out this form to request a Chromebook.

Internet Access:

If you have limited internet access at home, the GCC Library has received WiFi Hotspots that you may check out. Students may request a hotspot following the below instructions:

  • Online Request Form: Fill out this form to request a WiFi hotspot device
  • A library staff member will contact you to set up an appointment.
  • The Library is not currently open to the public. Do not come to the library unless you have been contacted by library staff with an appointment time.

The Verdugo and Garfield Campuses Child Development Centers are closed until further notice.

Verdugo and Garfield Food Pantries are closed until further notice. Here is a link to other food pantries in the area. Call ahead to check hours and availability.

All public events All public events and other activities scheduled at the Verdugo and Garfield Campuses are cancelled. College athletics, drama, music, and dance events scheduled are also cancelled.

DSPS students who may need additional support to achieve a successful learning experience with the non-classroom environment may contact the Center for Students with Disabilities (818)240-1000 ext. 5905 to speak with a counselor who can make the appropriate assessments, referrals, or accommodations.

All college related travel for college employees and student trips is prohibited until further notice.

The Professional Development Center on the Montrose Campus will continue to work directly with those employers with whom there are contracts in place for employee training to determine the method of instruction and training to be provided.

Health Center is closed. Health Center nurses are available for health and mental health related questions and referrals by calling 818-551-5189 Mon-Fri 9AM-5PM.

Duplicating Center is closed until further notice.

GCC CalWORKs Parents Program continues to serve students remotely. Staff is available by phone 818-660-6118. Email: Web: .

All Food Service locations are closed until further notice. This includes The Vaquero Grill, Block and Barrel, Casa Solana, and CJ’s Convenience Store in Sierra Madre; Starbucks in Sierra Vista; The Shuttle in San Gabriel Plaza, The Café outside San Gabriel; and Snack Bar in Palm Plaza Garfield Campus.

Verdugo and Garfield Libraries are closed until further notice. Remote reference services and online library workshops will continue as scheduled and laptops are available for student checkout by appointment.
