Selection Process

To meet basic equivalency requirements, the department reviews each application for the following:

• Prerequisite courses taken outside Glendale Community College are equivalent.

• Overall GPA of 2.5 and a science GPA (Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology) of 2.0. Applicants must receive a grade of "C" or better in all prerequisite courses. Applicants with more than one (1) repeat in Anatomy, Physiology or Microbiology will be considered ineligible.
  • Grades of W, C-, D, or F are considered repeats

• COVID-19 Conditions: Substandard grades (W, EW, NP, C-, D, F) in Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology taken in Spring/Summer/Fall 2020 will not be counted towards GPA calculations and will not be counted as a repeat. 

The of California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office developed a work sheet (Other Documents - Appendix B: Evaluating Effectiveness of Selection Model) which gathers applicants data to calculate the probability of success within the ADN Program.  Applicants must have a Chancellor’s Formula Cut Score of 75% or higher. Significant factors that influence this formula include:

• Overall GPA
• GPA for Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology
• English GPA
• Any repetitions of the above sciences for substandard grades, repeats, or withdrawals.

COVID-19 Conditions:

•  Substandard grades (W, EW, NP, C-, D, F) in Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology taken in Spring/Summer/Fall 2020 will not be counted towards GPA calculations and will not be counted as a repeat.
• The department highly recommends that students complete all prerequisite courses with a letter grade. However, students have the option to be graded on a "Pass/No Pass" basis. Please note that a "P" notation will be interpreted as a "C" in the Chancellor's Formula.

Applicants who are above the cutoff score (75%) will be invited via email to take the TEAS 7 at Glendale Community College (GCC).

Applicants who are below the cutoff score (75%) are not eligible for the current application period. In order to become eligible at a later date, students will be required to complete a Student Success Remediation Plan that will be developed by GCC’s Nursing Counselor.  The department will notify students about this process at a later date via email.

Applicants must pass the TEAS 7 with an overall score of 62% or higher. The TEAS 7 is necessary for all applicants, regardless of any educational degree. Previous versions of the TEAS will not be accepted.

Applicants who have not taken the TEAS prior to applying will be invited around April (for Summer/Fall applications) or October (for Winter/Spring applications) to take the TEAS 7 at Glendale Community College if determined eligible.

Applicants who have already taken the TEAS 7 will be asked to send their first score (first attempt) electronically through www.atitesting.com to the Nursing Department using “Glendale CC ADN CA” around April/October if determined eligible.

Applicants who do not pass the TEAS 7 on the first attempt will be directed to the Nursing Counselor for development of a Student Success Remediation Plan.
