The Department of Nursing offers to foreign nurse graduates the opportunity to correct
a noted deficiency in an area of nursing education which prevents eligibility for
NCLEX-RN. This program is offered by Glendale Community College in cooperation with
the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Eligible applicants will be notified via email by the Nursing Department to make an
appointment with the Health Sciences Division Associate Dean/Nursing Program Director
and/or designee for evaluation.
In order to be eligible to apply for the Foreign Nurse Graduate (FNG) Program, the
following must be submitted with the application:
- Letter from the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) stating deficiencies
- Official transcript showing completions of English 101 in the United States
English 101 (Freshman English) must be completed with a grade of “C” or better before
applying and your grade must be posted on the transcript prior to applying. No “work
in progress” is accepted. English courses taken outside of the United States will
not be accepted.
Applicants who do not complete English 101 by the application deadline may apply in
future semesters. Please check back on our website (www.glendale.edu/nursing) for
future deadlines.
Acceptance into classes required for the Foreign Nurse Graduate Program will be based
upon the availability of space. Accepted applicants will be notified via email in
mid-June as to which portions of the curriculum must be taken to complete the Board
of Registered Nursing (BRN) requirements.
Selected applicants must complete the following:
- NS 217 (1.0 Unit) – Advanced Placement Nursing Bridge Course
- NS 218 (1.5 Units) – Nursing Pharmacology Review and Update
- Other Nursing courses as determined by the program director based on deficiencies
outlined by the BRN.
Upon completion of these courses, the student will be placed on a waiting list until
an opening in the appropriate course becomes available.
Upon acceptance, the following are required and must be valid throughout your enrollment:
- Health requirements consistent with other students enrolled in the program
- Fire and Safety Card
- CPR Card – Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Professional Rescuer from the American
Heart Association
- Glendale Community College Nursing Student uniform for clinical rotations
