Majors or Educational Objectives Requiring Statistics

The SLAM-Statistics pathway is ideal for students majoring in subject areas that require Statistics. For example, Social Science and Health Science are majors that typically require Statistics. If you are unsure if you will need to take Statistics for your major or educational objective, please check with a counselor.

All students are eligible to take Statistics by enrolling in Stat C1000E (previously Math 136+) Statistics with Support; however, you may be eligible to enroll in Stat C1000 (previously Math 136). Please check your math placement in MyGCC. To view the eligibility criteria for these courses, please click on the Math Placement (MMAP) Rules.

Stat C1000E and Stat C1000

MATH 136 is a transfer-level course in Statistics. Students will explore the nature of statistical methods, types of data, introductory probability, sampling theory, experimental design, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and decision making. An emphasis will be placed on the application of these concepts to real world data, development of statistical reasoning, and the interpretation of results.

MATH 136+ is a transfer-level course that covers all the topics found in MATH 136 along with a built-in support lab component. In this support lab, students will review arithmetic and algebraic concepts needed to succeed in Statistics.
