  • Students are required to sign with the Student Lab Worker each time they use the lab. If no student lab worker is on site, students should sign in with the FTVM Instructional Support Technician.
  • All food and drink, even in closed containers must be checked at the table by the entrance.
  • Please respect that others will be working so keep conversation and volume to a minimum.
  • No excessively loud talking or socializing as the lab is a quiet place.
  • Keep your workspace clean and don’t leave papers or trash lying around for others to clean up.
  • Please do not have cell phone conversations in the lab.
  • Push in your chairs when not in use and before leaving the lab.
  • Please realize that instructors may have reservations for classes in the lab in which they have priority.

LAB COMPUTER Software

The following pertinent software is available on the Media Arts Lab computers (list excludes common software native to Macs):

Adobe Creative Suite: Acrobat DC, After Effects, Animate, Audition, Bridge, Character Animator, Dimension, Dream Weaver, Illustrator, InCopy, InDesign, Lightroom, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Prelude, Premiere

Microsoft Office: Excel, One Note, Power Point, Word

ProTools: Only on computers 1-4 and 21-24

PRINTING, SCANNING AND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT: Our lab offers limited printing, scanning and loans of certain lab equipment such as headsets and Wacom tablets.

If you need to print, make sure you select “Media Arts SG328 Printer.”

Please limit your printing to 10 pages per day.

TIP: If you are having issues printing directly from the Chrome browser, try downloading the document as a PDF and printing from there.

USE of the SCANNER The Media Arts Lab contains one scanner connected to a single computer (SG328-11). Please leave that computer open for scanning unless no other computer is available.

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT (i.e. headphones, Wacom tablet, etc.), you may check it out from either the student lab worker or the FTVM Instructional Support Technician for the duration of your lab session.

Lab equipment checkouts require some form of collateral (student ID, driver’s license) be left with either the Student Worker or the FTVM Instructional Support Technician.

STUDENT LAB WORKERS: Our Student Workers are available to help students with lab applications and equipment.

The students workers in our labs are provided to assist you with questions you may have about specific software and techniques. Media Arts faculty provide students with instruction and resources needed to complete assignments, so please refer to those resources before seeking assistance from the student lab workers.

Please treat our lab’s student workers with respect.  Do not use them as personal tutors and depending on their major, understand that they may have limited knowledge of certain applications.

Being a student lab worker is an excellent way to earn some extra cash to help school and living expenses.

Student lab worker schedules are set at the beginning of the semester and remain static week after week throughout the semester, so students interested in becoming a lab worker should apply by the end of the first week of the semester.

If you are interested in being a student lab worker, you may get apply with the FTVM Instructional Support Technician. 

Student lab worker eligibility and max allotment of hours is determined by the Department of Student Employment Services and are contingent upon enrollment hours and academic standing.

It is the student worker’s responsibility to arrive on time every day and check-in with the FTVM Instructional Support Technician.

If a student worker is unable to work a scheduled shifts, it is her/his responsibility to let the Instructional Support Technician know in advance and to find another student lab worker to cover that shift.

If a student worker repeatedly fails to arrive on time for their shift, the Media Arts department reserves the right to terminate his/her employment.

It is the student lab worker’s responsibility to keep track of their time card and turn it in to the Instructional Support Technician by the 2:00pm on the 15th of each month.
