The Biotechnology Research Lab Technician Certificate of Achievement Program is the third level that introduces students to the field of biotechnology through strengthening and building on the basic and advanced biotechnology laboratory skills and soft skills that meet industry standards in a series of courses. This program prepares students with the skills for laboratory technician positions in biotechnology and in academic research institutions, such as life science technician and biological technician (with a bachelor’s degree). The program also provides students with the foundation in microbiology, molecular and cell biology laboratory skills for undergraduate research at four-year colleges. To gain authentic, hands-on research experience, students are recommended to take the BIOL 298 path and conduct internship (BIOL 50) at a four-year college prior to transfer to a four-year college.

The Certificate is granted to students who have completed at least 12 semester units of the required courses at Glendale Community College. All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better, or a “P” grade.

Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this certificate program, students will learn necessary skills for a lab technician job; master advanced biotechnology laboratory skills and good documentation practice; and acquire work-readiness skills.
