This certificate prepares students to operate, program, and set up 4th and 5-axis
CNC milling machines used in precision manufacturing. Students learn how to read technical
drawings, select materials, and apply the correct machining processes to produce accurate,
high-quality parts. The certificate also emphasizes safety protocols, programming
using CAM software, CNC machine setup and machining, and part inspection. Graduates
are prepared for careers in industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical device
manufacturing, and general machining, where they can work as CNC machinists, operators,
or programmers.
The Certificate is granted to students who have completed the requisite units outlined
in the major requirements with at least 6 semester units of the required courses at
Glendale Community College. All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better,
or a “P” grade.
Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will be able to demonstrate depth of knowledge in a course, discipline, or vocation by applying practical
knowledge, skills, abilities, theories, or methodologies to solve unique problems;
apply various software programs to write CNC code for the production of manufactured
parts; use CNC machines and CNC machine tools to produce manufactured parts; and employ various
software tools while integrating traditional methods of programming and controlling
the machining process for effective set-up, troubleshooting and finishing.
