The degree or certificate in Spanish Language provides a rigorous academic preparation
in the Spanish language. Students are prepared to transfer to baccalaureate degree
programs in Spanish or Romance Languages, as well as Linguistics. This degree or certificate
also meets the needs of those in the community who wish to gain aptitudes in foreign
languages or may enter the job market in fields that may require knowledge of a foreign
language such as Spanish. Students develop competency in the ability to comprehend,
speak, read, and write in Spanish, while at the same time learn to think critically
by analyzing works of literature and other manifestations of culture.
The Associate of Arts degree is granted to students who have completed at least 12
semester units of the required 60-degree applicable semester units at Glendale Community
College. The required 60 semester units must include all of the following: (1) Completion
of the courses required in the major or area of emphasis with a grade of “C” or better,
or a “P” grade. (2) Completion of one of the following general education patterns:
GCC General Education Requirements or the California General Education Transfer Curriculum
(Cal-GETC) requirements. (3) A minimum GPA of 2.0 in the required 60 semester units.
The Certificate is granted to students who have completed at least 12 semester units
of the required courses at Glendale Community College. All courses must be completed
with a grade of “C” or better, or a “P” grade.
Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will demonstrate increased reading and
listening comprehension of the target languages; utilize oral and written communicative
skills to produce the target languages; and demonstrate increased knowledge of the
target language’s cultures.
