The AA-T in Spanish provides students with a strong academic foundation in the field
and preparation for upper division baccalaureate study. Students who have completed
the AA-T in Spanish will have satisfied the lower division requirements for transfer
into Spanish or a similar major for many campuses in the California State University
system. Please consult a GCC counselor regarding specific course requirements for
your transfer institution.
Requirements to earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT): 1. Completion of 60 semester
units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University,
including both of the following: a. The California General Education Transfer Curriculum
(Cal-GETC). b. A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in the major or
area of emphasis with a grade of C or better. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable
grade for courses in the major or area of emphasis. 2. Obtainment of a minimum grade
point average of 2.0.
Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will be able to comprehend written and
oral Spanish at the level of mastery (mastery is to be defined as advanced proficiency
after four semesters of language study), ready to continue with upper division courses
in Spanish; communicate orally and in writing in Spanish at the level of mastery (mastery
is to be defined as advanced proficiency after four semesters of language study),
ready to continue with upper division courses in Spanish; demonstrate a broad knowledge
of the cultures of the Spanish speaking world to be utilized as a foundation for upper
division courses in Spanish; and analyze the history and/or the literature of Spanish
speaking countries to be utilized as a foundation for upper division courses in Spanish.
