The AS-T in Early Childhood Education provides students with a strong academic foundation in the field and preparation for upper division baccalaureate study. Students who have completed the AS-T in Early Childhood Education will have satisfied the lower division requirements for transfer into Early Childhood Education or a similar major for many campuses in the California State University system. Please consult a GCC counselor regarding specific course requirements for your transfer institution.

Requirements to earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT): 1. Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following: a. The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). b. A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in the major or area of emphasis with a grade of C or better. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major or area of emphasis. 2. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will be able to promote Child Development by developing an understanding of young children and their needs, as well as the multiple interacting influences on children’s development and learning in order to create healthy, respectful supportive and challenging environments for all children; build family and community relationships; observe, document and assess child development and learning to support young children and families; plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate, culturally and linguistically relevant experiences that promote and/or support development and learning for all children; and identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession, using ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood best practices.
