Bali 2027: Preliminary Shell Itinerary

Prices are based on the current USD exchange rate with Indonesia. The price would need to be adjusted should there be a significant change in this foreign exchange rate.

Program Fee Includes:

• Accommodations in 3- or 4-star hotels with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and two students per room (see below for single-room option):
  • Three nights in Jimbaran with daily breakfast.
  • Ten nights in Ubud with daily breakfast.
  • Five nights in Pemuteran with daily breakfast.
  • Three nights in Amed with daily breakfast.
  • Four nights in Candidasa with daily breakfast.
• Group airport transfers (must arrive at the same time as the group).
• Transfers while abroad:
  • Taxi service from Jimbaran to Ubud.
  • Taxi service from Ubud to Pemuteran.
  • Taxi service from Pemuteran to Amed.
  • Taxi service from Amed to Candidasa.
• Entry fees to selected sites as part of the program itinerary. These include Uluwatu Temple, Jimbaran Fish Market, Coral Triangle Center, Ubud Sacred Monkey Forest, Setia Dharma mask puppet museum, Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, Menjangan Island, Brahmavihara-Aram Buddhist Temple, Pura Tirta Empul, Goa Gajah, Gunung Kawi, Tirta Gangga Water Palace, Pura Goa Lawah, and Tenganan Village.
• Performances and workshops including a Gamelan & Balinese Dance workshop, a Canang Sari workshop, a Kecak or Barong dance performance, a chocolate-making class, a demonstration/lecture from a sacred mask maker, and multiple cooking classes.
• Bicycle-based agricultural tour including coffee plantation.
• Daily breakfast, welcome dinner, farewell dinner, and eight additional meals.

Not Included:

• Airfare from U.S.A. to Bali (Denpasar) and from Bali (Denpasar) back to U.S.A. (estimated under $1,600 if purchased by February 2027)
• GCC tuition for four units of coursework (non-residents are required to pay out-of-state fees)
• Single room option (additional $700, subject to availability)
• Mandatory travel insurance (estimated $50 depending on coverage limits and age)
• Textbooks (if necessary)
• Most meals and beverages
• Visas (needed for most travelers)
• Any quarantine expenses (if required following a positive Covid test while abroad)
• Personal expenses
• Excursions and entry fees beyond the official program itinerary
• Anything not specified as “included”

Notes: 

• Regularly enrolled students may be eligible to apply for one of several scholarships typically ranging from $500-$1000 or more. Details to follow.
• If you cancel, all payments are considered non-refundable. However, if we find a qualified replacement for your space, a refund will be issued minus any non-recoverable costs.
• Additional charges may be incurred for late payments or returned checks.

As part of this program, students must enroll in the following course (four credit units):

Culinary Arts 48 (International Field Studies) 1.0 Unit

CULIN 48 provides college credit to study culinary arts in Indonesia and explore the traditions and ingredients of Southeast Asia, under the direction of a Glendale College instructor. Travel and studies are at the student's own expense for programs provided by agencies approved in advance by the College. Note: This course may be taken four times; a maximum of 12 units may be earned. Each repetition must be in a different country and/or area of the world. Lecture 1-3 hours. Prerequisite: None. Transfer Credit: CSU

Global Studies 170 (Introduction to Global Studies) 3.0 Units

GEOG 170 uses hands-on and interactive activities in the field to introduce students to the interdisciplinary field of Global Studies, including the history of globalization. Economic, political, social, cultural, and ecological developments related to the process of globalization will also be explored. Students will visit and volunteer with local organizations as a means to evaluate topics such as NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and the global economy. Note: This course is cross-listed with ECON 170 and POL S 170. This course may not be taken for credit by students who have completed ECON 170 or POL S 170. Lecture 3 hours. Recommended Preparation: ENGL C1000, ENGL C1000E, or ENGL C1000H, or equivalent. Transfer Credit: CSU, UC, USC

• Students are required to complete a formal application. The application may require a character reference, an academic reference, and personal information. Complete applications with the required deposits are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Most participants will be 18 years or older. On certain programs accommodations can be made for those under 18 with parental permission and recommendation from a counselor or the equivalent.
• A pre-departure conference with each student by the Study Abroad Director and/or program faculty director must be held.
• Students are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and no history of disciplinary action at GCC or any other campus. Exceptions may be granted by the Study Abroad Director.
• Students will be notified promptly in writing should they not be accepted into a program.
• Program participants will be required to read and sign liability forms as part of a General Release Form Packet.
• Students do not need to have a declared major in the classes they are taking abroad, and there are no language prerequisites for the programs unless a specific course has its own requirement.
• Students do not need to be current GCC students or have taken classes at GCC previously.
