Program Costs: $2,895

Program Fee Includes:

• Accommodation for 15 nights (twin occupancy rooms in a centrally located hostel).
• Group airport transfers and coach transportation
• Paris Metro tickets, entry to the Eiffel Tower, Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, Maison de Balzac, guided walking tour of Montmartre and the Île de la Cité and Notre Dame areas, bateaux mouche cruise, cheese and viticulture lecture
• Side trips to Versailles and Provins
• Welcome dinner, farewell dinner and daily breakfast

Price Does Not Include:

• Airfare from LAX to Paris (approx. $950 if purchased 5 to 6 months in advance)
• GCC tuition for 2 units of coursework (non-residents are required to pay out-of-state fees)
• Mandatory travel insurance (estimated $50 depending on coverage limits and age)
• Textbooks
• Most meals and beverages
• ETIAS electronic Visa (if required)
• Any Covid-19 quarantine expenses or testing for airlines and country entry requirements (if needed)
• Personal expenses
• Excursions and entry fees beyond those listed and anything not specified as “included”

If you cancel, all payments are considered non-refundable. However, if we find a qualified replacement for your spot a refund will be issued minus any non-recoverable costs.

Space is limited to 24 students, so act quickly.

Additional charges may be incurred for late payments or returned checks.

The course(s) that are offered as part of the program may be transferable as electives to the University of California and/or California State University. Check with your academic advisor.

Students must enroll in both courses offered as part of this program (2 credit units).

French 48: French Field Studies (1 unit) taught by Prof. Sarah Mecheneau
This course will focus on two things: 1) Helping the students cross the intercultural gaps of interacting with a foreign culture. Slowly, students will gain confidence in their language and cultural skills so that they can venture and discover the city on their own, writing their own study abroad story. 2) Acquiring a cultural understanding of the city of Paris and its major role in history and literature.

English 48: English Field Studies (1 unit) taught by Prof. Piper Rooney
Discover French culture through encounters with its creative responses to Romans, Revolution, and Regicide! French literature is just one of the artifacts we'll explore in our experience of Paris, Provins, and Versailles. From Marie Antoinette's Petit Trianon to her lasting impact on fashion, from the Impressionists to the auteurs of French film, from the winding medieval streets of Provins to the sweeping boulevards designed by Baron Haussman, we'll look at the ways that the French, and the Francophiles who flock to her, have created and celebrated the country's culture.

Students are required to complete a formal application. The application includes a character reference, an academic reference and personal information. Complete applications with the required deposits are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Most participants will be 18 years or older. Accommodations can sometimes be made for those under 18 with parental permission and recommendation from a counselor.

A pre-departure conference will be conducted by the Study Abroad program director(s) and/or Program Faculty before a student is admitted to a program.

Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and no history of disciplinary action at GCC or any other campus. Exceptions may be granted by the Study Abroad Director.

Students will be notified promptly in writing should they not be accepted into a program.

Program participants will be required to sign the forms “General Release of Liability” and “Assumption of Risk for Participation in Voluntary Activity.”

Students do not need to have a declared major in the classes they are taking abroad and there are no language prerequisites for the programs unless a specific course has its own requirement.
