Glendale Annual Distance Education Recertification is the professional development faculty complete each year to maintain eligibility to teach distance education courses at GCC.

The annual requirements are established through the May 2024 Guild MOU.

Annual Requirements and Deadlines

Required Training Hours

Faculty complete training in distance education pedagogy each academic year:

  • Full-time faculty: 3 hours
  • Part-time faculty: 2 hours

DE Recertification activities may also count toward annual Flex obligations.

Important Deadlines

  • March 15: Submit an Intent to Recertify if your required hours are not yet complete.
  • June 30: Final deadline to complete the annual recertification requirement.

Faculty who do not complete the annual requirement by the final deadline are no longer DE Instruction Eligible until the requirement has been satisfied.

Ways to Complete DE Recertification

GCC Workshops

Complete eligible synchronous or asynchronous workshops offered by the GCC Distance Education Team.

Look for activities identified as DE Recertification/GLOW UP in the Vision Resource Center (VRC) and GCC professional development announcements.

CVC@ONE Training

Eligible online-teaching workshops and courses offered through CVC@ONE may be used toward annual DE Recertification.

Other Eligible Training

Faculty may also complete approved distance education pedagogy training offered by another institution or professional organization.

Documentation will be required so the DE Team can verify that the activity meets GCC recertification requirements.

Transcript Verification

Due to limited staffing, the DE Team is no longer accepting DE Recertification Transcript Submission and Verification Forms for the 2025–26 academic year. The verification process for 2026–27 will reopen at the start of the Fall 2026 semester.
