A Term Dismissal Appeal is for students who have exceeded the Maximum Time Frame (150%) allowed to complete their educational goal while receiving financial aid.

Federal regulations limit the number of units a student may attempt while remaining eligible for financial aid.

  • Students pursuing an associate degree or transfer program are placed on Financial Aid Term Dismissal after attempting more than 90 units.

  • Students pursuing an eligible vocational certificate will be reviewed after attempting 150% of the units required for their program. If the maximum time frame has been exceeded, an appeal is required to continue receiving financial aid.

Students who exceed the Maximum Time Frame are no longer eligible for financial aid unless their appeal is approved.

If circumstances beyond your control prevented you from completing your educational goal within the Maximum Time Frame, you may submit a Term Dismissal Appeal.

How to Complete Your Appeal

Before submitting your appeal, you must meet with an Academic Counselor to review your academic record and develop a Student Educational Plan (SEP) that identifies the remaining courses required to complete your declared program.

Use the Student Forms Login link in the Quick Links box on the right side of this page to access Student Forms.

  • Log in using only your student ID number. Do not include "GCCS\" before your student ID number (example: use username, not GCCS\username).
  • If you are having issues logging into the GCC Portal, please contact the Help Desk at 818-240-1000 x4357 for assistance.

All appeals are reviewed individually. Submission of an appeal does not guarantee approval.

If your appeal is approved, you will be placed on a Financial Aid Academic Contract. Students on an Academic Contract must:

  • Enroll only in courses required to complete their declared program.

  • Follow all conditions outlined in their approved Academic Contract.
