Probation is a warning system used to alert students and counselors that a student is not making
satisfactory progress at GCC.
TWO TYPES OF PROBATION
Academic Probation
A student shall be placed on academic probation if the student’s cumulative grade-point
average for all semester units attempted at GCC is less than 2.0.
Progress Probation
A student who has enrolled in a cumulative total of at least twelve (12) semester
units shall be placed on progress probation if the percentage of all units in which
a student has enrolled, for which grades of “W’’, “I’’ and “NC’’ or “NP” are recorded,
reaches or exceeds fifty percent (50%).
What are the consequences of being on probation?
As a result of your probation status, you are at risk of:
- Losing your priority registration, if you continue on any type of probation for two
(2) consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring).
- Losing your fee waiver eligibility if you are receiving California College Promise
Grant (CCPG), formerly the BOG Fee Waiver. This could occur if you continue on any
type of probation for two (2) consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring).
- Being dismissed from GCC for one semester, if you continue on any type of probation
for three (3) consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring).
What are the next steps to return to good standing?
- Log into your Canvas account and accept the invitation to the “Path to Academic Strategies and Success (PASS)” Canvas workshop. Complete the entire workshop to understand the process of probation
and how to return to good academic standing. If you do not see the workshop on your
Canvas, please contact us by email at counseling@glendale.edu.
- Book an appointment to meet with your academic counselor, to discuss your probation
status, and develop a Student Educational Plan to help you get back on track.
- Please contact the Academic Counseling office, Sierra Vista Bldg., Third Floor, by calling 818.240.1000 extension 5918 to make
a counseling appointment, or emailing counseling@glendale.edu. Please let the clerical staff know the reason for your appointment is probation.
- Important Note: Students enrolled with either EOPS, Center for Students with Disabilities, Veterans
Resource Center, Student Equity Learning Communities, Dual Enrollment, CalWORKs or
International Student Office should continue to contact those offices to book a counseling
appointment: /students/counseling.
- Continue following up with your academic counselor and utilizing all the support services available to you at GCC, which you have already paid for as part of your tuition/fees.
