DE Certification

Faculty assigned to asynchronous, synchronous or remote, hybrid, HyFlex, or proctored online courses must be both DE Certified and DE Instruction Eligible.

There are three ways to earn GCC Distance Education Certification.

Choose Your Certification Pathway

1. Complete Approved Training

Complete an approved online-teaching program, such as:

GCC Introduction to Asynchronous Online Teaching and Learning (IAOTL)
@ONE Introduction to Asynchronous Online Teaching and Learning
@ONE Online Teaching & Design
Online Learning Consortium Teaching Certificate
Quality Matters Online Teaching Certificate

2. Request Coursework Equivalency

Faculty who completed comparable DE training elsewhere may request an equivalency review.

Submit the following:

Your certificate or digital badge
Curriculum or course description
Delivery format
Number of training hours
Date completed

3. Qualify by Teaching Performance

Experienced online instructors may qualify through an approved credential or course review.

A CVC POCR-reviewed and badged course
Quality Matters Peer Reviewer status
A Quality Matters-certified course
A CSU QOLT-reviewed course

Complete the Local Policies Quiz

Faculty receiving certification through @ONE or equivalency must complete the GCC DE Policies and Procedures Quiz with a score of at least 80%. Please contact us at de@glendale.edu to receive access to the quiz.

Newly Hired Faculty

Newly hired faculty who are not yet DE Certified may be eligible to submit an Intent to Certify.

Approved faculty have their first primary semester and one consecutive short session to complete approved certification training.

Maintain Your DE Instruction Eligibility

After certification, faculty complete annual Glendale Annual Distance Education Recertification professional development: three hours for full-time faculty and two hours for part-time faculty.

GADER activities may also count toward annual Flex obligations.
