From the ten finalist, two students are selected by a committee of students, faculty, and ASGCC Advisor for the J. Walter Smith and Elsie Bishop Student of the Year awards.

Please help us recognize our amazing college student leaders through the nomination process!

The minimum qualifications to win the Student of Distinction Awards are:

  • Presently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units;
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better;
  • Completed at least 30 units at the time of nomination;
  • Outstanding student leadership and participation in campus activities for at least two semesters (leadership and participation can be defined broadly beyond involvement in a club or a title)

Each year faculty, staff, and administrators nominate student leaders who deserve special recognition from the college. A committee made up of students, faculty, and the ASGCC advisor will select ten students from the nominations as Students of Distinction each academic year. Each student who is selected will receive special recognition at the annual ASGCC Honors & Awards Banquet.
