Assessment is an important part of Student Success. The assessment process at GCC helps students determine the appropriate placement into the right classes for your degree and your future.
All first-time college students are required to go through the placement process. You will not be able to enroll in classes until they completed all the steps below:
Students walk into the Assessment Center to complete their assessments during the times listed on our Assessment Schedule. No appointment needed for English/Math and Chemistry. Students are required to have a Glendale College ID number and bring a photo ID with them.
English and Math Assessment
The English and Math Assessments are given through guided placement surveys that help to choose the correct English and Math classes for you using previous academic preparation. For more information, please see English & Math Assessment.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Assessment
The ESL Test is necessary for initial placement into any Credit ESL class or any other courses requiring an English/ESL skill level. The exam consists of Listening/Speaking, an Essay, and Grammar. This test is given by appointment only. Appointments must be made in person. For a sample test and more information, please see ESL Assessment.
Students can walk-in to take the Chemistry Test during the times listed on our Assessment Schedule. Test scores can meet prerequisites for certain courses and will help your counselor in recommending the most appropriate courses to meet your skill levels and educational goals. For a sample test and more information, please see Chemistry Assessment.
