GCC Brand Identity Guide

GCC Brand Guidelines LOGOThe logo expresses the foundations and values of Glendale Community College.

The bridge has a strong connection to GCC both physically and metaphorically. The majority of students use a bridge to access either the upper or lower Verdugo Campus, while a bridge links the two largest buildings on the Garfield Campus.

GCC strives to be the region’s premier learning community. The bridge symbolizes the faculty and staff ’s commitment to helping students connect the gap between the student’s dreams and educational goals. The three arches reference the idea of inclusiveness, serving as the bridge’s foundation while also representing the three GCC campuses (Verdugo, Garfield and Montrose).

The bridge is drawn with depth, creating shadows and highlights, referencing the idea of movement with a view to the future. Additionally, the yellow highlight reflects growth. The typography evokes a contemporary and collegiate sensibility.

No alteration or customization of the elements of the logo are allowed.

Use of the district name, logos, and official images is limited to specific written approval by the Office of Communications and Governance Relations.  For questions or inquiries, please contact comms@glendale.edu

GCC Brand Guidelines proper logo usage

GCC Brand Guidelines logo campusesFormal logos are available for each academic unit and several non-academic units within Glendale Community College. The formal unit logos contain the image, wordmark and the unit descriptor. These logos are for interdepartmental use and internal purposes only. External marketing with these logos should be kept to a minimum as we encourage all GCC marketing materials to use the official college logo to promote consistency.

Please contact the Office of Communications & Community Relations at comms@glendale.edu for your area’s logo.

There will be times when the full-color logo cannot be used; for those instances, please use the following as a guide:

GCC Brand Guidelines logo background color

The Glendale Community College logo should always be placed in the upper left portion of the page.
Choose the correct version of the logo for the right design. All elements of the logo, including the graphic and text should remain highly visible and clear when placed on a background or other element. Below are examples of different applications of the logo that are appropriate for the chosen backgrounds they are placed onto.

If the background is busy, consider using a cardinal or gold band with the appropriate logo layered on top.

GCC Brand Guidelines logo placement

The Glendale Community College logo should be used on EVERY piece of marketing collateral that promotes the college, including printed collateral, event materials, outreach, internal marketing, promotional items, official communications, etc. If it is promoting GCC, it needs a logo.

A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself these questions when promoting the college:

  • Are you holding an event at GCC?
  • Is it an event put on or sponsored by employees of GCC?
  • Is it intended for current and/or prospective students of GCC?
  • Does is it benefit GCC directly either through monetary means or community awareness?

If the answer to any of those questions is “YES”, then the GCC logo MUST be included on all marketing materials.

Exceptions are when:

  • Using the Vaquero logo (Athletic department only).
  • Adding officially sanctioned department logos.

Clear Space:

The GCC logo should maintain a clear space that is the measurement of the x-height of “GLENDALE” around the entire logo. This ensures maximum visibility and impact for the GCC logo.

Size:

In order to ensure that the GCC logo remains legible and recognizable, it should be no smaller than 1.5” wide.

GCC Brand Guidelines special Programs and EventsOur goal is to maintain brand consistency with the use of the official GCC logo on all marketing materials; however, some student and community programs have unique logos created to better help individualize them for marketing purposes.

While they may contain unique graphical elements and font styling, these logos must adhere to the standards developed by communications.

Individual programs may not create their own logo for official use without the approval of the Office of Communications Community Relations.

Please contact the Office of Communications & Community Relations at comms@glendale.edu if you have special program or event logo you would like to discuss.

The Vaquero Athletic logo is for use by the GCC Athletics Department to brand the department and teams. Unlike the GCC logo, the Vaquero graphic element can be used as a standalone without accompanying text; however, all elements (graphics and logotypes) relating to the GCC Athletics Department and teams are intended for athletic marketing and communications only.
